We also work with education sector culturing community engagement and joint action plan in realizing the improved performance outcomes, by building appropriate foundation through stressing the early grade education.

ReDo takes Education sector is one of a complex and diverse sector in any country. In developing country like Tanzania, quality education for all children and especially early grade education (Std 1-4) requires multi-sectorial strategies that are integral to overall development and success. This implies the active involvement of a wide range of partners’ families, teachers, communities, private enterprises, and government and non-governmental organizations in planning, managing and evaluating the success.

Community engagement in education is widely recognized as a vital force in the effort to remove barriers to achieving quality education for all. Although generalized problems can be identified externally (i.e., low school enrollment), it is a community’s engagement in the reflective analysis of its particular situation that leads to locally generated, locally viable, long-term solutions. Successful engagement empowers communities to participate in multiple facets of education support. Community involvement in school management has shown to increase accountability for both learning outcomes and school resources; involvement in curriculum development, which ensures the cultural relevance of subject content and teaching styles, leads to a wider embrace of the educational process. Community engagement also fosters the willing contribution of local resources (human, material, and economic) for the benefit of education. Community ownership of education initiatives endows such initiatives with a greater likelihood of being successful, and of being sustained over time (First Principles: Community Engagement in Education Programs Compendium, EQUIP 1).

In Tanzania, Community engagement is taken as voluntary and not part of community responsibility towards education sector development, despite of improving learn outcomes experienced in schools getting fully community engagement and community joint action plans, which also contributes to addressing gender related setbacks like improved enrollment of girls children, friendly infrastructures to all includes pupils with disabilities (PWDs) and community collective actions in protecting schools infrastructures.
